Did he emigrate??

I have been ill just of late with a flu bug, but just before I got that I started going through and tidying up my family tree mess, before meeting a sixth cousin at the end of April!!

SO i returned to Mary Emery, she has proved quite elusive as her place and indeed date of birth seems to have changed by each decade looking at the census reports!!!

Anyway I sought advice and others on forums seemed to agree that the one I have had in my GRO basket was the birth certificate I should be ordering, so I have - that and three others to get the ball rolling again.

The Garnett and Almack side is about done now - apart from a few death dates and some "filling in" I am hoping to research further back when Sam has gone to school, but for now I think I will concentrate on other branches.

That said - Barbara (my sixth cousin) asked me where we thought Francis Ward almack had dissappeared to. His family can and have been found in 1891 and 1901, his wife Mary (Emery!!) lists herself as being married - not a widow, there are no deaths I or Barabara can find of Thomas around then - so where did he go.

Well this weekend I have asked and searched, and I really do think he emigrated to Canada and later his youngest son Thomas Almack went out too. I am still collecting data on this, and there is quite a lot that is available to me. But I have to ask if it is MY Francis Almack - WHY did he go, why would he leave his young children to emigrate??? Were they all going to follow him?? What happened???

Time to Pick This Up Again

Image of tree removed so text may not make sense!!

Ok its time to pick up again, but before I carry on with this post and new research - let me see if this works

okie dokie - so that finally worked!!

so from there i know that Francis Ward Almack was born 26 Apr 1855 in Addingham and he married Mary Emery 16 Jan 1876 at parish church of St Mathew, Manchester (Mary was born 1852 in Wigan)

I have the certs in bold, but I need to find out when and where Mary was born - I have info re her parents (not sure without looking back where I got that info from - I need to check - was it the census???)

Francis' parents were Thomas Ward Alamck and Ann Turner - they were married 26 May 1850 in the parish church of skipton They were both born circa 1825, to check this I need to see parish records or something as this is pre 1837.

I also need the deaths of these people - the census info will help me - as I can find them up to a certain year and then that will help me ascertain after what year they died.

So those facts are my next step, before retrieving info from my distant relatives who have contacted me via Genes Reunited

Who Do I Think I Am?

This follows on from the BBC - who do you think you are - the programme researching family history of the stars

I thought I'd start a blog, detailing my course of searching and what happened etc etc - primarily for my own use so I have somewhere central to record notes etc and stumbling blocks

I thought first I'd show how far i got on the Garnett side at the moment - it has taken me two years I believe off and on to get this far - more off than on I hasten to add!!!

Again image removed so text may not make sense

I have used genes reunited to post my limited tree, but I use family tree maker and ancestry.co.uk to utilise my main research.

However following on from genes reunited I have found a sixth cousin!! Well she found me anyway - she sent mail to be via genes reunited (GR) and asked if one of our ancestors Francis Almack 1855 were one of the same and it does appear that they are.

The concidences do not stop there though!!! More about that later!!
